New Address...

I've decided to keep my Wordpress blog instead of this Blogger one.  I really do enjoy WP more than Blogger.  For the most part it has more options.  It makes doing your weekly posts a lot easier because you can copy it and change the information in the post.

I hope you will come over and visit me there often.  I have set up all the blogs I follow there as well!  I promise I won't move again! :)

Sunday Salon - Mother's Day

It's a gorgeous day!  The sun is shining brightly and the sky is a beautiful cloudless blue

Today's Plan:
This morning I was up at 6:30.  I've already done my grocery shopping.  We are taking Grandma to brunch for Mother's Day. This afternoon hubby and I are getting on the Harley and going for a cruise.  We plan to stop at a winery for dinner.  It's going to be a relaxed day!

Nothing at the moment.  I've had two cups of coffee and need to start on water.

Listening to:
Son fixing his breakfast!  At 9:30!  other than that all is quiet.

The list is getting too long!
1) The Gifts of Imperfection
2) Flight of the Sparrow
3) The Beginner's Goodbye
4)Wild at Heart

How ridiculous the Military is!  Our son did not get sworn in yet.  He passed all his physicals and tests but the doctor wants more information on his adoption.  REALLLY????  Good grief!

Now, I am off to enjoy my day!  I hope all of you wonderful Ladies have a Terriffic!!!! Mother's Day!

Home part 2

North end of the family/dining room

South end of the family/dining room

East side of the family/dining room

West front door entrance

East side of the kitchen

West side of the kitchen

Looking from the kitchen down the hall way

Stairs to the family room and basement area

Family/entertaining area... work in progress (clock isn't hung yet)

Newly decorated spare room.  Belonged to daughter 2 that moved out last fall.

Looking back from the middle of the family room at the table.

Master bedroom.  What I could share as it's small and hubby has about a 1000 hats laying around the place.
Looking out of the Master bedroom you can see Son's room and Grandma's room.

It wasn't my intention to do a two part serious on Home.  The journal prompt last week was "What are you thankful for?" which was my HOme.  This week it is "Write about the place you all home".

As I said last week I have never lived any where as long as I have lived in this home.  We built it mostly with our own hands.  There was some contracted help but we did the contracting part as well.  In this house we have put blood, sweat, and tears.

Our biological daughter was not born into this home.  She remembers all the long hours that we put in.  She remembers the shopping at Home Depot for all the building materials and fixtures.  Then she has 17 years of memories in this place we call home.  Our two adopted children came along at the ages of six and eight.  So it would be similar for them.  Except a few years delayed.

This is not a perfect home as there isn't one on the planet but it is my favorite place in the world to be.  Almost every room in our house had a memory that can be tied to it.  The pictures I share here are real.  I didn't want to clean up an make you think that there wasn't anything out of place because believe me my friend, it more often is than not. :)

I have always wanted people to feel comfortable in my home.  To me that means that it is clean but not clutter free.  That there is no fear of "messing" things up.  We don't eat off the floor so there is no need to take your shoes off!  Kick back and enjoy being together.

Home right now does not look like it did just a year ago.  And I know in another year there could be more changes that may send me reeling.  I always envisioned a large dining table with benches on the sides and two chairs at each end to accommodate my expanded family.  That day may still come but right now home is what it is, empty.  And I am learning to be okay with that for now.

Public Service Announcement!

I just have to share that yesterday the Surgeon General has approved our son to proceed with the enlistment process!  He will go to St. Louis MEPS on Thursday.  While he is there he will take the ASVAB and Physical.  He will spend the night and come home Friday!

Once he passes his physical the recruiter will work with him on job placement.  We will know more the first of next week!  But this is exciting and wonderful news that I wanted to share as I have been "stressing" over it for months.

Week 3 in knitting

I work on this scarf every chance I get. Which is not as often as I like with all that is going on here with our son, lawn care, and laundry... I think it is going to take forever to finish it.  But if I start something else it will take even longer.  So, I fight the temptation to pick up another pattern and cast on another more interesting project.  Bare with me as I try to get this one done.

With the weekend like it was, you know, beautiful, it was hard to sit on the couch and knit.

It measures 22 inches!  38 more to go.

Watson's Scarf

But I will share with Nicole at Frontier Dreams anyway! :)

It's Monday! What are you reading?

A very long time ago I participated in this weekly link up.  Thought I would give it a go but I'm sure it won't be every Monday as my reading isn't that quick right now.  Got a couple books going that are taking some time to "sink" in. If you know what I mean.  So if you're interested go over to The Book Date and see what great books others are reading!

I've found though that visiting her can cause a rash of Challenges to take place! :)

Slowly working my way through this one.  I highly recommend it to anyone!

I started this one and realized it will be a slow one like The Gifts of Imperfection.

I am listening to this one on audio.  It's pretty good but had a hard part to get through when the Indians came through and... yeah, you know what I was going to say...

Revisiting the old Sunday Salon

What a beautiful weekend!  There was no rain and there was plenty of sunshine.
Old faithful... comes back every year without me having to do a thing with it!

Ugh, I have not tackled this project.  Not really sure I want to either but I know I will as I can't stand looking at this "dead" mess.

On the North side of the house these are my faithful ladies.  They require nothing but water!

Our kids old tire swing just waiting for grands to come along and enjoy it!

The vegetable garden that is dormant this year.  I don't really care about gardening.  Too much work for too little people.

Truck and trailer that hauled our new tractor home.

Today's plan
I finished cutting the grass this morning and then returned the rented tuxedo.  I did one load of laundry because I do at least one a day.

Working on my water intake and I am only half way through the first bottle.

Listening to
The quiet.  Son is practicing for his ASVAB, hubby got called to work, grandma is in her room reading and I am "finding me".

Seven more actual days of school and 14 until graduation.  Wish that recruiter would call us with some good news!

My Weekend
Friday night hubby drove 4 hours one way to get our "new to us" tractor.  He stayed the night and traveled back the next morning.  He doesn't hold up well under long trips like he used to...  Friday night I got movies with my son at Redbox.  NEVER again will I let him pick out movies.  Just saying.  One I had him turn off.  The second was USS Indianapolis.  Definitely a good story but I could do without a soldier being eaten by a shark every three minutes!

Saturday morning I went and got some shopping done before hubby got home.  Then I cut some of the grass.  There is a lot to mow.  Saturday was our son's Senior prom.  I may be kind of prejudice but I think he is very handsome!

After we dropped him at prom hubby and I went out for a nice quiet dinner.  It's been a while since we could just sit and talk and not be interrupted by grandma or friends.  Just the two of us.  I also had to stay away until time to go pick our son up at midnight!  I made it though.

Sunday!  OH Sunday what a beautiful day!  I finished cutting the grass early as there was no dew. Then I had to go and return the rented tuxedo.  Came home to find that hubby had to go to work.  I hate that but it is good money on a Sunday.

My Journey This Week...

Happy Cinco de Mayo! :)

Some weeks just feel like an emotional roller coaster.  You know what I mean?  So many ups and sudden downs leaving my stomach lurching.  I thought I would start logging my week here so as to make myself a little more intentional about every day.  Thinking about what has happened and really trying to be in each day.

The weekend was really nice even though it rained every day.  Our oldest friends (as in best man in our wedding old) came by Saturday afternoon to see if he could help my hubby a little on our boat. That is another story for another day.  We ended up going bowling and dinner.  It was a great time.  We were so wiped out that we were home in bed by 9:00.  Man, are we getting old or what?!

Sunday was a relaxing day for the most part.  We did a few chores around the house after sleeping in.  Then we laid around, me knitting while hubby searched for a tractor to buy on the internet.  I made possibly the last pot of chili of the season which my son and grandmother really enjoyed.

Monday, back to reality...
Everyone went to work or school.  I forgot to pay the caregiver that comes in to sit with Grandma so I had to take the check to her after work.  Hubby had to go back into work, he works for a power company and the flooding is causing some big problems.  While he was out I ran over and visited with our daughter, the one he is estranged from.  It's a difficult situation and I am really trying to get them to come together and talk (hence the opening paragraph).  It's been 7 months since they have spoken.

Tuesday, more of the same...
Son had a track meet in a town about an hour away.  I don't usually go to those. Hubby had a school board meeting on restructuring our bonds.  Was only supposed to be about an hour...went two and a half!  We did not make it to the gym... again. (and I don't usually get to go)

Wednesday, pretty busy day...
Hubby took our son to Senior Breakfast at 6:30.  I then went to pick him up at 7:30 and took him on to school.  Then for lunch the Senior boys had a big BBQ with their dad's at the park.  After school I took him to pick up his tuxedo for Prom on Saturday. (will have plenty of pictures to share!)  Hubby went to pick up our new Harley after lunch.  Once he got home we went to the gym.  It felt so good to get a good workout in!  I've stopped Zumba... I'm not really very good at it and I didn't feel like I was actually getting a good workout because I struggled with the moves more than anything.

Thursday...a much slower evening (still raining!)
They cancelled school due to area flooding.  Buses couldn't get to pick up the kids.  Fixed a good dinner for grandma and our son. Had some productive much needed conversation with hubby.  There's been a lack of that in the past few weeks.  Did a few loads of laundry, paid the bills, did a little knitting, and took a nice soaking bath.

So, I am hoping for a nice weekend with Hubby and a great Prom experience for our son...

What are you thankful for?

Every time I am asked this question I always stop and delve deep into my life to find the most "meaningful" thing to be thankful for.  There has always been a need in me to sound very intelligent in my response to this one.  Why, I can not say.  There is so much that I am thankful for if only I would just speak it and not fear condemnation for my thoughts.  So, here I go...

My home.  It has been our home for 17 years. I have never lived anywhere that long in my entire life!  There has been a lot of things happen in this home.  Not all good but certainly not all bad.  Right now it is not a place that our kids are "running" back to but I know there will come a day when they will appreciate that HOME is still here and they can come to it any time.

Home is a safe place.
Home is a place where you can be you and not worry about what the outside world thinks.
Home reflects your values and beliefs.
Home is cozy and comfortable.
Home is a place to be creative, or  not.
Home is where you can be angry and everyone still loves you in the end.
Home is home cooked meals shared around the table.
Home is where your heart is! :)

photo is from my old blog but it is still our Home.

This week 2 in knitting

I skipped a week because there was not any real progress in my knitting.  Not that there has been tremendous progress but I thought I would join up with Frontier Dreams again this week and share a few things.

Knitting... coming along nicely.  As I shared yesterday I am weaving in those ends!

I have just remembered a way that I don't have to "weave" most of those ends.  When I go back on row three of that color, I am just holding the tail and working it back through.  I can't do that with the white as it is only two rows each time.

Yippeee!  It measures 17 inches!  Only 43 more to go!

The Simple Woman's Daybook {{May Edition}}

I am linking up with Peggy to share my May Daybook.  I will only be doing this link up once a month.  My life isn't changing that much to do it week to week.

For Today

Looking out my window
it's very green!  We had approximately 9 inches of rain over the last three days.  It's very wet, the ditches are still running, and I need to mow!  But that won't be happening for a while.

I am thinking
That in a few weeks we will attend our last child's high school graduation.  It's bitter sweet to say the least.  The future for our son is in the hands of the Army surgeon.  He has yet to determine if our son will be able to enlist.

I am thankful
for the recruiter that we have though.  He has worked very diligently to see that all "t's" are crossed and all "i's" are dotted.

One of my favorite things...
Is casting on a new project!  Oh how it fills my heart with joy!
(I know, "really?")

I am creating
the scarf that will go with the hat for my "step" grandson. (Wow!  That felt really good to say!)  It measures 14 inches and I am working in those tails!  ugh!  not my favorite part so I am trying to do it as I go instead of waiting until the end.

In case you didn't remember the hat...

I am wearing
It's going to be a cool day here in Mid-Missouri and it will be extra cold in my office.  I am wearing jeans, tennis shoes, and a sweatshirt.  Think my boss will get the hint? (I doubt it)

I am reading (read) /watching (watched) / listening to
I'm slowly reading this great book!
I've seen the movies but I am listening to this book as I drive to and from work.
I am hoping
I hear from the Army Surgeon this week that he has approved our son to enlist.
(I know but it is weighing on my mind!)

I am learning
What I like to do for myself.  I have never been in this position before.  I am trying many different things and I know I won't stick with all of them but I want to try them to find out what it is I truly enjoy!

In my kitchen
My kitchen is the most quiet place on Earth right now.  I cook the bare minimum to keep Jeremy and Grandma fed.  Hubby and I eat very little of the regular foods.  Mostly chicken, veggies, hummus, and smoothies.  There too is the occasional glass of wine.

In the school room
You won't see this prompt in my daybook after this month.  Our son graduates in a few weeks and he is the last one.  His Senior Prom is Saturday.  He has a Senior picnic and many other "Senior" things coming up in the next few weeks.

In my garden
This prompt won't be here next month either.  I am not vegetable gardening anymore.  We just don't eat enough to make it work all that work!

Board room
I just recently joined Pinterest.  (again, I know, "really?")  I am trying very hard not to spend too much time with it.  I've discovered that it can be extremely time consuming.
You will see me writing a post for each of these prompts over the weeks to come.

Post Script
At the beginning of the hunt to Find Me I found this great website;  livebold&bloom.  It's a great site for any woman.  It's where I found great ideas for hobbies that I might be interested in.  Come to find out there are lots of articles that are helping me in areas I didn't really know there was help needed.  Hope you check it out and enjoy it too.

Closing Notes
April was a difficult month.  Hubby and I deciding that we needed to find ourselves after all these years turned out to be a great thing.  Working very hard with the recruiter to get our son in the ARMY.  That my friend is a hard thing.  There are days that I just don't know what the future will hold for our youngest child.
I hope that May is an easier month.  Although there is graduation to get through it should be a joyous occasion.   Summer months are always brighter and more fun for me.
